Purchasing your Voordeelurenabonnement

NS Service Desk

• Obtain the brochure entitled Het Voordeelurenabonnement from the NS Service Desk.
• Complete the application in the brochure and send it to NS with a valid passport photo.
• You will receive your pass within three weeks.

Voordeelurenabonnement – immediate benefits

• Obtain the Het Voordeelurenabonnement brochure at the NS Desk and complete the form inside the brochure.
• Submit the completed form to a member of staff at the NS Service Desk, provide valid proof of identity and a passport photo and pay the fee for the Voordeelabonnement in cash.
• You will receive a temporary Voordeelurenabonnement pass immediately which means that your 40% discount applies at once.
• If you are aged 60 and over and have opted for Selection Days pass, you will receive this pass at once as well.

The Convenience of Automatic Renewal

Your Voordeelurenabonnement has Automatic Renewal. The benefits are listed below:

• Your Voordeelurenabonnement is automatically renewed and paid every year. You don’t have to complete anymore paperwork or submit payment. It is all taken care of for you.
• Every two years you will automatically receive a new pass.
• If you do not wish to extend your Voordeelurenabonnement for the following year, simply contact us and we will cancel the contract.

40% discount during off-peak periods

• On weekdays, you receive a 40% discount on train fare for journeys made after 9.00 in the morning.
• At weekends and in the months of July and August, you are entitled to the 40% train fare discount all day.
• On the following days in 2008 the 40% discount also applies before 9.00 a.m.: 30th of April, Ascension (1st of May), 2nd of May, 12th of May, 25 December to 1 January 2009.
• You receive the 40% discount on Singles, Day Returns, Weekend Returns, Day Travel Cards and 5 Return tickets.
• The 40% fare discount applies to both 1st and 2nd class.

On your way before 9.00 a.m.?

• You then buy two tickets: one for the standard fare valid to the first station from which the train departs after 9.00 a.m. And one ticket which is valid from this station with the usual 40% reduction.

Aged 60 and older

Passengers aged 60 or older;

• Have even more to gain from the Voordeelurenabonnement.
• May take advantage of the NS Selection Days offer. Selection Days allow passengers to travel throughout The Netherlands for an entire day at a greatly reduced fare
• Receive seven Selection Days per year under the Selection Days offer.

Choose from three Selection Days offers:

Seven 2nd class selection days.

• You pay a total of € 69.00: € 55.00 for your pass and € 14.00 for your selection days.
• This works out to a mere € 2.00 per Selection Day. An entire day of travel throughout the country for only €2.00!

Seven 1st class selection days.

• If you would prefer to travel in even more comfort, you may opt for the 1st Class Selection Days offer.
• You pay € 94.00 a year: € 55.00 for your pass and € 39.00 for your selection days.
• Your Selection Day fare is less than € 6.00 per day in 1st Class.

No selection days.

• You benefit from all the advantages of the Voordeelurenabonnement and pay only the base rate of € 55.00 a year.

The OV-Chipkaart (Public transport smart card) and NS passes

• You receive your Voordeelurenabonnement on a personal OV-Chipkaart (Public Transport Smart Card) with your passport photo on it.
• You purchase paper train tickets from an NS self-service ticket machine, NS Service Desk, Wizzl/Kiosk convenience store in the station or from and NS Service Outlet.
• Your Voordeelurenabonnement entitles you to a 40% discount during off-peak hours (after 9.00 am).
• Train, tram, bus and metro: In the future, you will be able to travel on all public transport in The Netherlands with just one card: the OV-Chipkaart.
• This card will replace all tickets, such as train tickets and Public Transport Multi-Journey Zone tickets and passes.
• In some areas it is already possible to load tickets onto your OV-Chipkaart.
