Improvements around Amsterdam in 2025
Throughout 2025, ProRail will be improving the tracks and stations in and around Amsterdam. We'll keep you up to date of how these works will affect your journey all year long.
Keep a close eye on this page for the latest information about engineering works. We may update this page from time to time following new information from ProRail.
January

Friday 10th to Monday 13th January
During this entire period, we cannot use tracks 4 to 6 at Schiphol Airport. As a result, trains will depart from a different track than you are used to and fewer trains will run.
In addition, there are almost no trains between Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Weesp on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Are you travelling between Amersfoort Centraal or Hilversum and Amsterdam Centraal? Then travel via Duivendrecht.
- Are you travelling between Weesp and Amsterdam Centraal? Then you will have an extra transfer at Muiderpoort station.

Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January
There are no trains between Amsterdam Centraal and Haarlem.
- Are you travelling between Haarlem and Amsterdam Sloterdijk? Then use the NS bus.
- Are you travelling between Amsterdam Centraal and Leiden Centraal? Then you travel via Schiphol.

Saturday 18th to Sunday 26th January
From Amsterdam Zuid, there are fewer trains and they depart from a different track than you are used to. We cannot use tracks 3 and 4.
A number of trains are cancelled on Friday and Saturday nights. Use the NS bus at these times.

Saturday January 25th and 26th
Fewer trains are running from Schiphol Airport and they depart from a different track than you are used to. We cannot use tracks 4 to 6.

Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 January
From Amsterdam Zuid and RAI there are fewer trains and they depart from a different track than you are used to. We cannot use track 4.
February

Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February
Fewer trains run to, from and via Schiphol Airport and they depart from a different track than you are used to.

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February
Fewer trains run to, from and via Schiphol Airport and they depart from a different track than you are used to.

Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February
From Amsterdam Centraal, fewer trains are running and they depart from a different track than you are used to. We cannot use track 7.

Monday 17th to Friday 21st February
There are no trains between Amsterdam Bijlmer and Amsterdam Muiderpoort. You can travel between these stations with our ticket by metro.
Are you traveling between Utrecht and Noord-Holland? Then you travel via Schiphol Airport.
March

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th March
From Amsterdam Muiderpoort, fewer trains will be running and they will depart from a different track than you are used to. We can only use half of the tracks.

Wednesday 12th to Wednesday 26th March
Fewer trains will be running from, to and via Schiphol Airport and they will depart from a different track than you are used to.
At Schiphol Airport, we cannot use tracks 1 to 3 and at Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam RAI, track 1.
From Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 March, fewer trains will also be running from Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam RAI. We cannot use tracks 1 and 2 at these stations.
Engineering works in the rest of 2025
The following planned works have been scheduled for the rest of 2025. More details will follow at a later date.
- Thursday 10 - Saturday 12 April: Haarlem - Zandvoort
- Wednesday 30 April - Saturday 3 May: Amsterdam Sloterdijk - Haarlem
- Monday 14 - Tuesday 22 July: Schiphol - Amsterdam Zuid
- Monday 21 - Tuesday 24 July: Amsterdam Sloterdijk - Haarlem
- Thursday 16 - Wednesday 22 October: Amsterdam Sloterdijk - Haarlem
- Saturday 15 November - Sunday 7 December: Schiphol - Amsterdam Zuid

Frequently Asked Questions about engineering works

Can I get a refund if my trip is delayed?
When we schedule works, we also update the itineraries and travel time in the Travel Planner. Your travel time may be longer than usual. Because the works are scheduled in advance, we cannot offer a refund if you reach your destination later than usual.
You are entitled for a refund if your train is delayed by 30 minutes or more relative to the timetable given in the Travel Planner.

How do I check in and out?
If you are forced to take an alternative route because of works, check in and out at the start and end of your journey. The fare will be the same, so you will not have to pay more if you check in and out again.
Taking an NS Bus as a rail replacement service?
Check out when you leave the train and transfer to the bus. There will be a temporary card reader near the bus. Check in before you enter the bus and check out again when you leave the bus.If you're transferring back to the train, check in again at the station before boarding the train.
Travelling with another public transport or train carrier?You do not have to check in or out with other carriers if
we recommend travelling with another carrier due to works. Your NS ticket also counts as a valid ticket with other carriers. Your trip will therefore cost the same.Example: if we recommend travelling by metro, you do not have to check in and out at the metro station. Only check in before you first board the train and check out at your destination.

Can I take my bike on an NS bus?
No, you may not bring your bike with you on an NS bus. Regrettably, there is no space for bikes.

Do detours cost more?
If you check in and out at the same stations as usual, your trip will cost the same.
Does alternative route means travelling with a different carrier?
You do not have to check in or out with the carrier if we recommend travelling with another carrier due to works. Your trip will therefore cost the same. Your NS ticket also counts as a valid ticket with other carriers.Taking an NS Bus as a rail replacement service
costs the same as regular train travel. We do ask that you check out when you leave the station and check in again when you enter the bus.Are your check in and check out more than 35 minutes apart?
Then you may have to pay more than usual, as the two legs of your trip will be seen as two distinct trips.Paid too much?
