Blocking an OV-chipkaart and requesting a new one

Is your OV-chipkaart lost, damaged or stolen? View the instructions for each type of OV-chipkaart to find out how to request a new card in order to be able to travel again.


Personal OV-chipkaart

Blocking an OV-chipkaart and requesting a new one 

The first step is to block your OV-chipkaart at ov-chipkaart.nl. This will prevent anyone else from being able to travel at your expense.

It's also handy, because you can request a new card there right away too. You will receive your new card within five days. We will automatically transfer your season tickets.

Do you travel on balance?
If you travel on balance, Translink will block the balance on your card within 24 hours. This will prevent anyone else from using this card to travel.

The balance will be returned to your account once you have received your new OV-chipkaart. It may take up to 15 days for the money to appear in your account.

Continuing to travel 

If you need to keep travelling while you're waiting for your new OV-chipkaart, then you should travel using another kind of ticket and request a refund for these costs.

Request a Temporary Ticket
Another way you can continue to travel is to request a Temporary Ticket. There are two ways to do this:

  • Visit one of our service counters at the station.
  • Contact our Customer Service.

Coupon code
You will receive a coupon code enabling you to purchase an e-ticket. The terms & conditions for your season ticket also apply to this e-ticket. You will therefore pay the same travel costs as usual.

Continuing to travel with your student travel product
If you want to continue travelling, then you can request a temporary student travel product. You can generally arrange this within one hour. The best way to do so is by means of DigiD, but it's also possible to do so without DigiD.

Anonymous OV-chipkaart 

If you had an anonymous OV-chipkaart, then we do not have your details in our records. This means we cannot block or replace your card, or return your balance.

You will therefore need to request a new OV-chipkaart yourself. In the meantime, you can travel using your debit card.
