OV-fiets
Information about the use of your data when you wish to use an (electric) OV-fiets.
What personal data do we use?
If you want to use an OV-fiets, we will process, among other things, the data stated on your OV-chipkaart and transaction data. You provided these data when you purchased the OV-fiets season ticket.
If you are an NS-Business Card holder or booker, we will use your business details if possible.
Electric bicycle (OV-ebike) pilot project
Starting in August 2022, NS will be conducting a pilot project for the use of electric bicycles. During this period, NS will collect data pertaining to the use, travel distances and speeds of electric OV-fietsen based on GPS location data. The research data for this pilot project will be processed anonymously and are not identifiable.
What do we use your personal data for?
The basis for data processing is: performance of a contract
You need a season ticket to use an OV-fiets, electric or otherwise. You can take out this season ticket online. For this season ticket, we will use your contact details and your card number. You can link this season ticket to any personal OV-chipkaart. We will use this information, other information shown on your OV-chipkaart and the transaction data in order to perform this contract, e.g. for billing journey fares or for processing customer service requests.
When you want to start or end a journey, your OV-chipkaart will be scanned via the automatic lock on the OV-fiets or by an employee.
The basis for processing the information is: legitimate interest.
It is in your interest and ours that we improve our services. For this reason, NS processes your transaction data in aggregated form for marketing purposes when you rent an OV-fiets from NS. We are interested in insights like the most popular rental locations, rental during the morning or evening rush hour, or the net turnover each month. If you do not want NS to process your transaction data for these purposes, please unsubscribe here. NS can use an electric bicycle's GPS location data to find a lost or stolen electric bicycle.
With whom do we share data?
We contract third parties to provide IT services. These third parties process the data solely for our own internal use, and for no other purpose. We have made agreements with these parties pertaining to the processing of personal data.
We are authorised to provide your personal data to parties outside the European Economic Community under certain circumstances. In that event, we will take suitable measures with these parties, for example by agreeing to the standard provisions required by the European Commission.
How long do we store your data?
We store your personal data for up to 18 months after you use an OV-fiets, electric or otherwise.
