Travelling with a functional disability

Information about how your data is used if you need help travelling due to a functional disability, for example if you are blind or visually impaired.

What personal data do we use?

If you have a functional disability and would like to travel by train, we will process the data necessary to facilitate your journey, including your contact details, your preferred aid, and - if relevant - information about your disability. In the case of an NS Business Card or NS Flex season ticket for the blind and visually impaired, we process the data from your OV-begeleiderskaart B, with only your name visible.

If you have an NS-Business Card from NS Zakelijk, we will use your business contact details if possible.

What do we use your personal data for?

The basis for data processing is: performance of the contract or consent.

We want everyone to be able to travel. NS also has a legal obligation to facilitate this in accordance with the Accessibility to Public Transportation Decree. That's why we offer travellers with a functional disability support when boarding, disembarking or transferring, and provide travel monitoring so that we can respond quickly if the journey does not go according to plan, for example in the event of a faulty lift or delayed train.

To provide this service, we process the travel data of the traveller in question, including the preferred date and time of the journey, and the mobility aid. We do so in order to determine which travel assistance aid is necessary. We also use your e-mail address to send you a confirmation of your booking. In addition, we use your telephone number to contact you in the event of a disruption during your journey.

If we book a taxi or wheelchair taxi for you, your name will be shared with Reva Taxi B.V. We will also share your telephone number with Reva Taxi B.V. if you give us express permission to do so.
If you have an NS Flex season ticket for the blind and visually impaired, we process a reference that lets us know you are travelling with an OV-begeleiderskaart B.

With whom do we share data?

Travel assistance is provided by our partner Qarin at those of our stations without permanent NS Service staff. We share your name, travel details and details of your mobility aid with Qarin. We have made agreements with Qarin pertaining to the processing of personal data. We give Qarin the data they need to be able to provide you with assistance, and we implement measures to prevent violations of your privacy.

It may sometimes be necessary to use a taxi for part or all of your journey. This service is provided by our partner Transvision. They allocate a taxi company on the basis of each request, and the taxi company will then take you to your desired destination. We implement measures to prevent violations of your privacy. For example, we only pass on the data Reva Taxi B.V. needs to make a reservation. Reva Taxi B.V. is responsible for complying with all applicable laws and regulations. For more information, we recommend that you consult the privacy statement for Reva Taxi B.V. (available at www.zcnvervoer.nl/disclaimer/privacy_statement/).

We contract third parties to provide IT services. These third parties process the data solely for our own internal use, and for no other purpose. We have made agreements with these parties pertaining to the processing of personal data.

We are authorised to provide your personal data to parties outside the European Economic Community under certain circumstances. In that event, we will take suitable measures with these parties, for example by agreeing to the standard provisions required by the European Commission.

How long do we store your data?

If you travel with NS, we will retain your personal data for up to 18 months after the date of the journey. The copy of your OV-Begeleiderskaart B will be destroyed after entering the reference to your customer number. You can ask NS to delete the reference at any time.
